FAQ

Answers to the questions we're most commonly asked about how we work, how we're appointed, and what to expect if we work together.

Can we appoint you for a single stage rather than the full process?

Yes. Our process is structured but modular. Clients may appoint individual stages independently, depending on programme, budget, or internal capability.

What does Studio X specialise in?

Commercial interior design across retail, workplace, hospitality and mixed-use environments, with a particular focus on projects where design directly affects brand performance or asset value.

Do you work on a fee-only consultancy basis, or design & build?

Both. We operate as an independent design consultancy and also deliver selected projects on a design & build basis where appropriate. The procurement route is discussed early and aligned to project risk, complexity, and client preference.

How are your fees structured?

Fees are typically agreed as fixed sums aligned to clearly defined scopes and stages. On larger or more complex projects, hybrid or performance-linked structures may be considered.

What size of projects do you typically work on?

Our work ranges from small, concept-led retail environments through to 30,000 sqft offices and full mixed-use or shopping centre developments. Scale is less important to us than intent — we are typically appointed where design decisions materially affect brand performance, user experience, or long-term asset value.

What type of clients do you work best with?

Clients who value clarity, make decisions decisively, and understand that good design is both a creative and commercial discipline.

What projects are not a good fit?

Projects driven purely by lowest cost, decorative outcomes, or compressed timelines without decision authority are unlikely to benefit from our approach.

Where does Studio X operate?

We are based in Hong Kong and Singapore and work across Asia-Pacific.

What is the difference between brand-driven and asset-driven design?

Brand-driven projects — translating what a brand stands for into physical environments, typically for consumers or end users. Asset-driven projects — optimising typically large-scale spaces for commercial efficiency, long-term value, and usability.
